Ormskirk and the North West · Children, families and schools

Understanding first,
then the plan.

Parents rarely want a label. They want to know why school is hard for their child, what would genuinely help, and who should be doing it — in language that doesn't need translating.

Free enquiry call

Whether assessment is the right step, or something else is.

Written consent and fee

Agreed with a person holding parental responsibility before work begins.

Assessment at the child's pace

Over one or more sessions, with breaks as needed.

Frequently asked

The questions we get most

Is this an urgent or crisis service?

No. If a child is at immediate risk of harm, call 999. For urgent mental health support call NHS 111 and select the mental health option, or contact your GP. Samaritans are on 116 123 at any hour.

Will an assessment get my child an EHCP?

No one can promise that, and anyone who does should worry you. We assess properly and write what the evidence supports; the decision belongs to the local authority or the tribunal.

Can you diagnose autism or ADHD?

Those diagnoses are made by a multidisciplinary team, usually including a paediatrician or psychiatrist. We can assess, contribute and refer, and we'll explain who needs to be involved.

Who has to consent?

A person with parental responsibility, in writing, before any assessment. Young people are involved in the decision according to their age and understanding, and we explain things to the child too.

Are you registered, and can I check?

Yes. Practitioner psychologist titles are protected by law, and you can verify any psychologist on the HCPC register at hcpc-uk.org. Ask us for the registration number — and ask anyone you're considering.

How is my child's information handled?

It's special category health data and treated accordingly under UK GDPR: stored securely, shared only with consent or where safeguarding requires it, and retained in line with professional record-keeping standards.
